"Assassins"
Written by Stephen Sondheim directed by Amy Ross
Directed by Amy Ross with Musical Direction by Phillip K. DugginsOkay, so you may not think that American presidential assassins make good topics for a musical. Well, musical theater is not just about song and dance any more. Serious topics can and should be dealt with on stage. In Assassins, John Weidman and the ever phenominal Stephen Sondheim address the problems of the disturbed and malcontented Americans who have occasionally struck out at the figurehead of our society. The incredible truth that Assassins uncovers is that these much reviled killers are in fact the ultimate believers in the American Dream. It is their frustration when they discover that they are unable to attain their 'prize' which leads them to kill.
